The day was a chance to have some quiet time for reflection and contemplation, with wonderful talks on Pentecost by Brother Aidan, who has 50 years of experience as a priest to draw on. We were given time to take in all the beauty of the recently rebuilt Church, an oasis of cool and calm combining the oldest architecture with stunning modern touches.
We also had lunch in the extended refectory, simple home-made meatballs and pasta,
followed by fresh fruit salad and cream, all eaten in silence (theoretically!) as the brothers of the Community do.
As you can see, the weather was wonderful, and even the usually terrible journey both ways across the Pennines on the M62 was trouble-free. If we have the opportunity to go again, it is highly recommended that you come along, no matter what you think about retreats or quiet days, you will definitely get something from the the experience.
